LadyBug Picnic First Birthday Party

It’s my birthday! Yay! To celebrate, I’m sharing some photos from the last big shindig I hosted, miss Vivian’s first birthday! We celebrated with a ladybug picnic themed party. It was a great afternoon with lots of friends, lots of sunshine, and lots of fun DIY party details! Here’s a peek!

Nearly every element at Vivian’s party was handcrafted. I wanted a simple, modern look and was able to create most of the pieces myself. I put together a simple graphic using picasa and used it for the invitations, treat bags, thank you notes, food tables, punch container, and the water bottles. Most of the decorations were printed onto cardstock and embellished with red and black polka dot ribbon. The water bottle labels were printed onto white mailing labels and covered with clear shipping tape.

The name banner, seen here on her high chair, was handmade by cutting out appliques from glitter felt and sewing them onto the red felt, then onto the ribbon. The sequined ladybug patch (also seen on the name banner) was purchased at JoAnns. I used the red and black polka dot fabric through out the party; both of the girls outfits featured the print, as did the table runners, buntings, and the slip cover I put on her high chair.

Each table was decorated in simple red table cloths and topped with a handmade table runner, fresh daisies and buckets of treats (snacks & candy!) The large “Happy Birthday Vivian” banner was a labor of love, ha! Each letter was hand drawn, then cut out and glued onto the layers of paper. I then cut each piece into a circle and strung them together with fishing line.

The party favors were child-size bug nets, magnifying glasses, and little bug catching baskets filled with red jelly beans. Whew! I think that is everything from the photo! Feel free to message me if I left anything out!

Here’s a look at a few of the pieces I made the girls to wear. Vivian’s birthday outfit was this white tee with handcut ONE applique and rhinestone ladybug applique, paired with a red tutu with black satin ribbon, white ruffle bloomers with a rhinestone ladybug applique, and a white sunhat that I embellished with a ladybug print bow. I also put together two matching bibs and a party hat that she wore for 30 seconds, ha! For big sister, I made an applique tee with LOVE on it and a black skirt embellished with black and red dotted ribbon.
